A new age
“Aging Well with MS” (Spring
2012) spoke directly to me on
many levels. It addressed my
ongoing considerations as I turn
57. I often say, “I’ve never been
this age before!” The piece on
menopause and MS tied in well;
I am grateful for resources and
food for thought in both articles.
I was diagnosed with MS in
2000 at the age of 45. I believe
that speedy diagnosis and
quickly embracing my disease-modifying drug have made my
MS journey manageable so
far. I look to the future with a
little trepidation, but feel secure
that my support system, my
neurologist and advancements
in research will help to keep me
on track and positive.

A great outlook
Thank you for “Aging Well
with MS.” I was diagnosed
with MS 36 years ago. No
longer am I so different
from anyone else my age, as
Dr. DiLorenzo points out
in the article. I am the expert
now, having coped with all
shades of disability. I do have a
good outlook on life and aging,
and I am content. Life can’t get
better than that!

Needed a quicker diagnosis
I went through a year of extreme
pain, depression and many
doctors before I was diagnosed
and before I began a course
of action to slow down the
progression of MS. My prayer
now is that the symptoms of MS
be recognized quickly by the
medical field, from emergency
rooms to family doctors. If MS
is diagnosed sooner, maybe it
won’t take such a toll on our
bodies.
