“S TILL
AVONEX is approved by FDA to treat relapsing forms of
multiple sclerosis (MS) to decrease the number of flare-ups
and slow the occurrence of some of the physical disability
that is common in people with MS. AVONEX is approved
for use in people who have experienced a first attack and
have lesions consistent with MS on their MRI.
Important Safety Information
; Before beginning treatment, you should discuss with
your healthcare provider the potential benefits and
risks associated with AVONEX. Let your healthcare
provider know if you have a history of or are currently
experiencing mood or behavior problems, seizures, liver,
thyroid, heart, or bleeding problems, low blood cell
count, or if you have had previous allergic reactions to
interferon beta. Tell your healthcare provider if you drink
alcohol, are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, or if
you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
; Potential serious side effects of AVONEX include mood,
behavior, liver, heart, blood and thyroid problems, allergic
reactions, seizures and infections. Tell your healthcare
provider right away if you experience any of these
symptoms: feeling bad about yourself or having thoughts
of hurting yourself, aggressive behavior, nausea, loss of
appetite, dark colored urine and pale stools, yellowing
of your skin or the white part of your eye, bleeding more
easily than normal, confusion, swelling of the face, eyes,
lips, tongue or throat, trouble breathing, skin rash, hives,
or your skin blisters and peels.
