More than 400 Momentum readers
responded to our online survey on how
they overcame barriers to exercising.
The largest challenge was fatigue;
over 83% of respondents cited it. Time
(35%) and cost (19%) were distant
second and thirds. Many wrote that
MS pain and other symptoms also
interfered with exercise.
The majority of readers (49%)
managed fatigue by learning and staying within their limits. Others made
sure to avoid overheating (43%) and
exercised when they had more energy,
such as in the morning (38%). Many
recommended exercising in smaller
increments and to find exercises that
don’t feel like chores. “Don’t let others influence you to do more than you
should,” advised one person. “A little
prodding is OK, but unless they know a
lot about MS, they need to bugger off!”
