A New Era
“New Drugs, New Options,
New Risks” (Spring 2011) was
very interesting to me. I was
diagnosed in 1998 and began
injecting myself with a disease-modifying drug when my symptoms got worse. In 2009 I was
accepted in the Bravo clinical
trial, testing oral laquinimod
against a placebo or Avonex. I
recently completed that trial and
am now in an extended trial. I
can’t express the excitement I
have in taking an oral medication
and I feel blessed to be involved
in this study.

Why does it not surprise me that
in “New Drugs, New Options”
there was no mention of CCSVI?
Please do not expect my support
or the support of my friends
and family until you can print
an unbiased story, with all the
true information that a person
with MS really needs.

“A New Era” focused on
medications currently, or possibly
soon to be, on the market.

Cooper to the rescue
It was so refreshing to read
Kimberly Zolotar’s article (“MS,
mood swings and waterproof
mascara,” Spring 2011). For me,
when I’m away from home and
beginning to feel my temper rise,
closing my eyes and counting to
10 usually defuses me. But when
I’m home, my sure-fire relaxation
tool is to hug my dog, Cooper.
Petting her, receiving affection
from her, settles me down in no
time.

Gone to the dogs?
I was pleased to see good, reliable information regarding bowel

If You or Someone You Know Has MS
Studies show that early and ongoing treatment with an FDA-approved therapy can reduce future
disease activity and improve quality of life for many people with MS. Talk to a health-care professional
or contact the National MS Society to learn about this and other ways to help manage MS.
